I disagree. If he hadn’t been killed he would’ve just been another asshole spouting hateful speech, but now that he’s dead I’m getting death threats online saying that I’m part of the problem even though I did nothing wrong.
The #CharlieKirk murder was a set up by the Trump Administration 1) as a pretext to start the war he needs, so he can finally be the “Wartime President” he so desperately wants to be and 2) he wants to be at war because he thinks he can cancel the election, and 3) nothing like the murder of a RW zealot to activate and excite his base.
It's officially Decorative Gourd Season, but McSweeney's isn't resting on its freaky squash laurels. Kirk is not a role model whose legacy should be whitewashed because of performative debates. He put up a nice front, but he was quite illiberal. Don't make him a free speech martyr.
Indeed, vitriol and insensitive comments or timing was my point. Humanity seems to have place in our culture and discourse.
Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I hope the remainder of your day is vitriol-free (though I suspect, in a way, I just told you to stay off social media).
Did you just reply to a post without reading the post?
There is a direct connection between Mr. Kirk’s tragic assassination and FIRE’s stated goals and actual work over decades. Had FIRE remaind silent in the face of this stark repudiation of campus dialogue, a void would have existed and lead to spurious charges by left and right. Your attempt to cheapen FIRE fulfilling a purpose is disingenuous. Thank you, Nico, for your longstanding and clear voice. Keep on. Colleges and the country need your voice now more than ever.
May Mr. Kirk’s widow, young children, and extended family find solace in what is surely an inconsolable time.
FYI: After reading the exchange here, a colleague of ours connected with @The Roving Mind on his page. It produced a highly fruitful exchange that may be of interest to readers. We believe the exchange displays what Mr. Kirk modelled for college students and, most tragically, can do so no longer.
Constructive exchanges between those who disagree are desperately needed even beyond the Ivory Tower. If you need an uplift after this ugly week, their exchange may be just the antidote. Clearly, constructive dialogue is possible even between disagreeing Stackers😀.
FWIW: Some of us disagreed with Mr. Kirk's politics; all of us admired his brave and genuine approach.
I did read the post. The same one you did. I read it differently. I stand by my question. Because I have been reading grotesque commentary or posts like this.
A very simple message about the assassination of a good man is ALL that is needed right now.
The solace you claim to want for his family isn't served by this post or yours.
Of course, your prerogative. In hopes to allay any vitriol (there’s too much of it everywhere), my reason to write was to support FIRE’s initiative. My apology that the initial question was presumtive.
the world is so much nicer now that he’s dead
Sadly you are a very sick person. An example of all that has gone wrong in the west. I hope you have your eyes opened and your brokenness healed.
You’re obviously a lost soul who’s deranged and mentally ill. Please seek professional psychiatric help.

Trans person gaslighting as usual...in other news, water is wet

What the fuck have you been smoking?
This is theoretically possible, do you have evidence or is this speculation?
Absolutely deranged.

This satire nails it.

Did you just use Charlie Kirk's assassination to run an ad fore FIRE??

Do better.
