Paramount settles, Trump refiles against Selzer, British rappers face trouble
Paramount settles with Trump over ‘60 Minutes’ edit
Paramount Global agreed to pay $16 million to settle a meritless lawsuit filed by President Trump over a “60 Minutes” interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
“A cold wind just blew through every newsroom this morning,” said FIRE attorney Bob Corn-Revere. “Paramount may have closed this case, but it opened the door to the idea that the government should be the media’s editor-in-chief.”
Trump drops lawsuit against Iowa pollster, then refiles
President Trump tried to withdraw a federal lawsuit against Iowa pollster J. Ann Selzer and the Des Moines Register, re-filing it in state court.
The suit alleges that a pre-election poll calling Iowa for presidential candidate Kamala Harris instead of Trump constituted election interference.
“Punishing someone for their political prediction is about as unconstitutional as it gets,” said Corn-Revere. “This is America. No one should be afraid to predict the outcome of an election. Whether it’s from a pollster, or you, or me, such political expression is fully and unequivocally protected by the First Amendment.”
