Excellent stand, FIRE.

It's sad that so many who scream loudly whenever the government tries to pressure any of the sites they like, are fine when the government tries to pressure sites they DON'T like. It bears repeating: giving the government power when your party is in office will come back to haunt you when the other party gets its turn.

In a healthy society, citizens know everything the government is up to and the government knows nothing about what its citizens are up to, unless it crosses over into a discernable crime. In a sick society, citizens know nothing about what the government is up to 90% of the time, and the government tries its best to track everything its citizens do.

I am so relieved that an organization exists that will fight for principle, regardless of how it affects political party. Thank you, FIRE! And thank you for sharing posts like this that clearly explain the principle at issue.

Well said! I do have an interesting hypothetical for you. What if a law enforcement tracking app was developed in coordination with and for the use of a group that was physically interfering with officers? Would that rise to the level of conspiracy?
